Statement
Monica de Bath is a visual artist whose work is drawn from the emotive resonances of rural sites. Her art practice explores the connections between local rural communities and the land with which they work and interact. It is concerned with the things that link us to previous generations, and the changing value of ‘landspace’ which has been shaped and reshaped by our interaction with it. While primarily a painter Monica also works/plays with digital imagery and printmaking.
Her recent commission for Bord na Móna communicates a story about this working bog site. A series of paintings on steel have been placed on site at Ballydermot Works, Rathangan, Co. Kildare. They begin a story as to how these paintings on steel will weather the time, and be interacted with, as they take up their position on a wall, a wagon or a door.
