Statement

I have always been interested in and fascinated by my fellow humans so it’s only natural that human emotion and circumstance provide the inspiration for most of my work.  The challenge for me as a sculptor is to communicate this as honestly as possible through whatever medium, to whatever scale.

Henry Flanagan OP, renowned sculptor and musician, got to the nub of it when he quoted St Thomas’s definition of art:recta ratio; he then went on to say “any fool can carve, but the recta ratio is chiefly a matter of the heart giving life to a material and reaching out to other hearts”.
